The Umia River is born in the parish of Aciveiro, municipality of Forcarei, and covers the municipalities of Estrada, Cuntis, Moraña, Caldas de Reis, Portas, Meis, Ribadumia and Cambados. Eventually flows into the Ria de Arousa. In the environment of the Umia we can see alder (Alnus glutinosa) on both sides. The large size of these trees limits the proliferation of other species, therefore they will be accompanied only by ferns and plants that need shade and moisture, such as nettles (Urtica dioica). We can also find shrubs such as laurel (Laurus nobilis). As for the fish fauna, the trouts that can be easily observed. The Umia River has great cultural significance throughout history, being born different stories or legends like Arnelas Bridge and the Bridge of godparents. The presence of man on the banks of the river also changes the landscape with the extension of cultivation to the river bank, to tap moisture and nutrients, which promotes productive activity, but limits the development of species.
